Of Christmas, the Epiphany is my favorite day. And for the last few years I trying to do, the best I can, the typical sweet, the "Roscón". The truth is I have not yet found the best recipe. This you can see in the pictures is the last I've done and looks great, right? But, call me a perfectionist, I think I can improve. And I never give up, year after year I try different versions until I got the perfect Roscón. Everything, as they say, is a matter of practice ;)

Just Spain

In Spain recently to celebrate Halloween. The tradition here is the "Día de Todos los Santos". A day to spend with family and remembering those no longer with us. The typical sweet of this day are the "buñuelos" and the "Huesos de santo". These are my favorites. A kind of marzipan egg yolk filling. Looking in my baking books I found the recipe for this sweet in the "Enciclopedia de Confiteria y Reposteria de la Marquesa de Parabene (Espasa)". An old book reissued that I love because it keeps the speech, expressions and how to cook years ago. In fact, the explanations are not entirely useful because it applies ancient techniques and is not very clear about cooking times, but I love his illustrations and language. You could say it is a vintage cookbook. One way to peek into the past.
This year I have encouraged myself to the Huesos de santo but for the next year, knowing I have the recipe ... Or, who knows, any day you need something sweet [*]

In my next life I wanna be... #1

I want to be a pastry artist. Not a baker either, but "the pastry". Can you imagine doing things like this sugar flower? And best of all is that before becoming the pastry artist will have been a ballet dancer ... Can there be a better life than this? Always surrounded by art and beautiful things ... Yes, I'd definitely ask this for my next life.
And I have not invented that, this is the life of Maggie Austin, a girl before making these edible works of art, was a dancer of classical ballet. After studying at one of the most prestigious pastry schools in France, sells her artworks in Washington ... Wow, so jealous!!

The other day, someone I care a lot, made me realized the importance of positivized thoughts. No more "I can not" or "this is not for me," everything is possible if you put your mind and is never late so I'm already visualizing how between pirouette and pirouette, paint a couple of cookies with lots of art. Because I can! Or you know... [*]

I've felt in love (again)

My (maybe) true vocation?

Recently I've been traveling in France. And I made the mistake of entering a bookstore. The result: a huge bag of books and cooking books mainly. I had to force me to leave the store or risk carrying more things that fit in my suitcase. But you never know when you'll return or if you're going to find the same tittles, so I decided to whim and what better representation of the french pastry that macarons? I love them and rather than for its  flavour, for its colors and the cute they left in any dish. Reading the recipes, it not seems so difficult to do. Also, one of them came with a complete kit all I need and very well explained and illustrated in terms of measurements, etc. When leave this unbearably hot (I think my kitchen is below 50 degrees) I'll prove. Who knows? Maybe this could be my true vocation.... [*]
